Headquartered in Walldorf, Ekosem-Agrar GmbH is the German holding company of the Ekoniva Group, one of the largest agricultural companies in Russia. We have operated successfully in the Russian agricultural sector for about 18 years. The former core activity of Ekoniva, the sale of agricultural machinery, was spun off last year. The remaining agricultural segment comprises 36,500 cattle, including 13,850 dairy cows, and has an annual milk producing capacity of 50 million litres, making it one of the country’s largest dairy producers.
Ekosem-Agrar has 173,000 hectares of land, which is equivalent to two thirds of the size of the Saarland. The company is not only a leading dairy producer but also one of the largest seed producers in Russia and is expanding its activities in the premium beef segment significantly. The Group employs 2,900 people and maintains six locations in Russia, primarily in the Chernozem region, one of the most fertile regions in the world.
The company was established in 1993 by today’s Managing Director Stefan Dürr, who has been active in the Russian agricultural sector since the end of the 1980s and has been instrumental in modernising the industry. In 2009, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in recognition of his contributions to the German-Russian agricultural dialogue. Two years earlier, he was the first German entrepreneur to receive the Pjotr-Stolypin Prize, which is awarded to “Russia’s agricultural elite”.Stefan Dürr about his motivation and the opportunities in the Russian agricultural sector
