Healthy animals & food

Only healthy animals produce healthy food

We love our cows and the welfare of our animals is a critical factor for the milk output and the consistent quality of our raw milk. As in Germany, Russian consumers are increasingly demanding healthy, high-quality products made from the best regional ingredients. We benefit from the fact that Ekosem-Agrar covers the entire value chain from seed and fodder production to the production of milk down to the store and ensures quality at all stages of the production process. Dairy farming on the scale of Ekosem-Agrar is a challenging task, but we want to live up to our responsibility as a leading raw milk producer and make our contribution to a more sustainable dairy industry.

All our new dairy cow facilities feature spacious free-range sheds with daylight and good ventilation as well as comfortable resting places. Well-trained staff and veterinarians permanently check the health of the animals.

We also attach great importance to the quality and the digestibility of the feed. As we grow our own feed internally, we always know exactly which nutrients our cows get. Our employees regularly carry out analyses in our own labs to ensure the optimum feed supply for the herd.

For several years, we have been organizing excursions to our dairy cow facilities at our sites in Voronezh, Kaluga and Novosibirsk so that everyone can see for themselves the well-being of our dairy cows. As part of our “Academy of Dairy Science” to promote the image of agriculture, over 55,000 participants have already visited our farms.

Our goals

The well-being of our cows is a critical factor for the milk output and the consistent quality of our raw milk. Dairy farming on the scale of Ekosem-Agrar is a challenging task, but we want to live up to our responsibility as a major raw milk producer and make a contribution to a more sustainable dairy industry. To this end, we have set ourselves the goal of establishing a new standard of milk production.

► In 2021, we will develop a special standard for our milk.

► In 2022, we will implement this standard at two dairy plants.

► By 2026, 25% of the cows will be kept in accordance with this standard.
