Milk Production

Currently accounting for more than half of Group sales and rising, milk production is Ekosem-Agrar’s most important business. More than 36,500 cattle, including 13,850 dairy cows, make the Group one of Russia’s largest milk producers.

Milk remains a luxury product in Russia and continues to command clearly higher retail prices than in Germany. Even though average per-capita consumption of dairy products is correspondingly low, demand significantly outstrips domestic supply. For Ekosem-Agrar Group, the resulting undersupply means that the market continues to offer substantial potential for growth and that competition is low due to the Group’s strong market position.

In recent years Ekosem has made substantial investments in cattle as well as in new cattle housing and milking equipment based on state-of-the-art western technology. Today the company’s facilities are among the most modern of their kind in Russia. High-quality fodder harvested from the company’s own fields has allowed to produce milk of the highest quality and to boost milk output above 225 tons per day and rising. Large buyers of Ekosem milk include major dairies and cheese producers such as Danone Unimilk and the Hochland Group of companies.
